SuperCap Failsafe Actuator

Introduction:
AOITEC's SuperCap Failsafe series brings a fundamentally more reliable approach to failsafe valve actuation. Instead of relying on mechanical springs or chemical batteries to hold emergency energy in reserve, SuperCap actuators store that energy electrostatically in a supercapacitor cell, so if power is lost, the actuator automatically drives the valve to its pre-set safe position.

Compact and lightweight
From 50 Nm at just 5 kg up to 6,000 Nm at only 32 kg, a fraction of the weight and size of comparable spring return actuators at the same torque class.
Long service life, No maintenance
Supercapacitor cells are rated for hundreds of thousands of charge and discharge cycles, far exceeding the cycle life of a battery, and they avoid the overcharging, and chemical aging issues that degrade battery cells over time. In theory, cycling will not be the limiting factor over the actuator's service life, since the SuperCap is rated for far more cycles than the application will ever demand.
Consistent and controlled fail-safe movement
Unlike a spring return actuator's rapid mechanical release, the SuperCap drive delivers a controlled closing motion, reducing the risk of water hammer and pressure transients in liquid filled pipelines.
Stable across a wide temperature range
With no electrochemical cells to lose capacity in the cold or accelerate aging in the heat, SuperCap actuators hold their fail-safe performance in demanding outdoor and extreme climate installations.
Fast recovery with no manual intervention
A fully discharged SuperCap recharges in only 15 minutes rather than hours, allowing the actuator to automatically return to a protected fail safe state after an event, with no manual intervention required and no prolonged period of valve vulnerability.
Equipped with a brushless DC motor
No brushes to wear down, which means less friction, less heat, and a longer motor life with less maintenance than a traditional brushed motor design. At idle, the actuator draws only 3W, making it energy efficient and environmentally friendly to run continuously in standby.
Wide voltage compatibility
A single model covers DC 12V, 24V, 110V, and 220V, plus wide-range AC inputs of 20 to 40V and 80 to 260V, so one actuator can accommodate a broad span of site voltages without needing a different model per voltage, simplifying specification across projects and regions with different electrical standards.

How It Works
During normal operation, the supercapacitor is continuously charged and held at full capacity, working as a standard on-off/modulating actuator.
On loss of power, the actuator draws on the stored charge to drive the valve smoothly to its pre-set fail-safe position, open or closed, without needing an external power source. Once power is restored, the cell recharges in 15 minutes and the actuator is immediately ready to respond to the next event without needing manual reset.

Wiring Setup:
The wiring method remains consistent with the configuration below, ensuring ease of installation.

Special Notes:
1.On initial power-up after wiring, operation may take several seconds—this is normal, not a malfunction.
2.Customers can choose between two power outage modes when placing an order:
1) Default Option: Valve closes during a power outage.
2) Alternate Option: Valve opens during a power outage.
